– we also offer sedation for the most nervous patients.

What is Sedation?

Sedation is a sedative drug to help nervous patients relax and manage their fear of the dentist. Sedation allows you to remain alert during your dental appointment but achieve a more relaxed state.  You will be conscious at all times, can talk to the dental team and respond to instructions throughout.

Can I go back drive home after sedation?

Those who opt for sedation will need to bring a chaperone with them to Frazer Dental, as after sedation it is unsafe to drive home, or operate any machinery for the rest of the day. You would not be fit to return to work that day. Most people are fine to return to their normal routine the day after sedation.

What should I do after I have a tooth out? ( dental extraction)

It is normal for the area to be tender for a week after & pain killers will be needed.

  • Start taking painkillers immediately afterwards, before the anaesthetic wears off – don’t wait until pain sets in!! Usually  800 mg Ibuprofen (Nurofen) taken at mealtimes & 1g Paracetamol (Panadol) taken in between meals, should be adequate. Avoid Aspirin (Dispirin) as it causes bleeding.
  • Take it easy and do not exercise for 12 hrs.
  • Do not smoke for at least 24 hours. Smoking delays the healing process & can dissolve the blot clot causing a painful condition known as dry socket.
  • Do not rinse for 24 hours, after that , start rinsing 4 times per day, with warm salty water or a medicated mouthwash. We advise rinsing after every meal to keep the area clean.
  • Keep biting down firmly on the gauze we give you for 45 mins after the extraction. If still bleeding then, change the gauze for a new piece or bite down on a cold damp teabag(folded in half) for 30-45 mins. If still bleeding , change for a new piece of gauze or teabag. Bleeding should stop after 2 hours. If any doubts, please give us a call.

What is dry socket?

Dry socket occurs when the blood clot in the socket dissolves or doesn’t form. Then, the bone under where the tooth was extracted  is exposed to air, food and liquids and becomes very painful.  If you are in alot of pain 2 -3 days after the extraction, then you may have a dry socket.  Smokers , diabetics or those who have had a difficult extraction are more prone . If you think you have a dry socket ,please call us so we can arrange to relieve this pain for you instantly by placing a medicated dressing. Those who have had a more difficult extraction or an abscess prior to the extraction are more prone.

What should I do if I knock my tooth out?

If it’s a baby tooth, do not worry. We do not re-implant baby teeth.

If it’s any adult tooth, hold the tooth by the crown (not root) and IMMEDIATELY place it back into the socket from where it came. If there is dirt on the root, gently rinse in clean water or milk before re-implanting the tooth. Then ring us to arrange an appointment IMMEDIATELY .

Otherwise, you can place the tooth in milk or hold it in your cheek inside the mouth until you get to Frazer Dental. However, the best thing is to immediately reposition the tooth in the socket BEFORE COMING TO FRAZER DENTAL.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, card and cheque payment. There is an ATM located outside the Bank of Ireland which is just a two minute walk from the practice.
